Quest Glen Waverley (Wurundjeri Woi Country)-Accessibility Review

Where

353 -361 Springvale Road, Glen Waverley, Victoria, Australia

Summary

I hosted a small social catch-up, and Gaz and I had a comfortable one night stay, in the one-bedroom accessible serviced apartment at Quest Glen Waverley. This is one of two accessible apartments in the complex, the other one being a two bedder.

Website Booking

The staff could not have been more helpful from the phone booking to assisting us with bedding options, accepting hire equipment liaisons and escorting my guests to the room ( as Gaz had left I was unable to open the heavy, manual standard door to welcome them).

What’s Inside

All doorways are wider than 85cm with an adequately spacious main living area design characterised by standard furniture such as couch, table and chairs, desk and TV unit, all of which could be moved around if necessary. Happily, we found having a hoist and a wheelchair easily slotted into the living room with proximity to the all-important power points.

The bathroom was adequately sized at about 2.5m by 2.5m diameter.

The bedroom was adequate with a queen size bed but I think a king-size bed would be a challenge for those who need to be transferred in the bedroom.

What’s Around

The apartments are located within 12 minutes roll/stroll of the very popular and dynamic retail and food complex that is The Glen Shopping Centre and Kingsway restaurants.

Inclusive Strengths

  • great location

  • lovely helpful staff

  • modern room

  • 12cm under-bed hoist clearance

  • functional bathroom

Inclusive weaknesses

  • A traditional door opening. An entry door automated with a card sensor would solve this.

  • Hoist transfers would be easier with more room around the Queen size bed.

  • Kitchen and bedroom cupboards are too high to use from a seated position.

Happy accessible travelling,

Important Footnote

I look at the ways in which businesses present an overall inclusive experience for their patrons. While I focus on mobility access I hope to get ideas from you and others to add observations relating to other disabilities. I take a comprehensive look at everything from initial website experience to staff attitudes. For dining venues, I do not comment on food (except sometimes if it’s super fab I might not be able to help myself) as you can have the joy of making up your own mind on that.
