Kalvin Hopper - YouTuber and Wheelchair Tennis Player

Kalvin Hopper is a 24 year old tennis lover who chatted with me about his 10 year journey of diagnosis and recent acceptance of having the condition Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy ( FSHD).

Through his YouTube channel, dude-ability, he hopes to inspire others with similar conditions. He discusses the transformative power of finding community through Para sports, Muscular Dystrophy Australia (MDA) and connecting with others who understand the daily challenges of living with muscular dystrophy.

Positive and self-effacing, Kalvin articulates his experiences living with FSHD including feelings of exclusion, learning to self-advocate and the importance of support from friends and family.

Kalvin’s articulate and pragmatic enthusiasm and hope is infectious. I'm sure you'll be inspired as I was listening to our conversation.

‘Finding community has been crucial in the acceptance process’ Kalvin Hopper.
