Quest Frankston On The Bay (Bunurong Country)-Accessibility Review

Inviting street entrance to Quest Frankston on the Bay

Gaz and I have stayed twice in 2 different accessible rooms at the Quest Frankston on the Bay and both times I have felt very comfortable. The staff are committed to fully accommodating people with all abilities, and it shows. The service from the friendly team was wonderful, and certainly helped increase the Christmas vibe that we were all struggling to attain as Covid fallout was still stinging.

The location is perfect for shopping, dining and enjoying the sea, with the beach only 100 metres away.

As my accessibility level is ‘Assisted Wheelchair User – level 3’ on the Accessible Accommodation classification I require a hoist for transfers. As such I require under-bed clearance of at least 13 cm. So, with no fuss management located and installed bed risers at our request that are now on hand for any future guests.

WHAT’S INSIDE

What worked

  • Easy glide carpet squares for hoist manoeuvrability

  • Available bed risers turned a 5cm bed clearance to 14cm

  • Lift 1030mm entrance

  • 920mm room door width

  • Lots of internal space ( esp. courtyard room) and power points for equipment

  • Lovely staff

What didn’t work

The adjoining restaurant and bar located in the front entry has limited access (not owned by Quest).

No under bench clearance in the kitchenette*

This room has a door to a large courtyard that has a high step on either side*

ACCESS TO VENUE | PARKING:

Easy – just make sure you ask on booking for a token to the adjacent underground carpark. This ensures easy access to the lift as the Quest underground has quite a steep ramp to the lifts and no marked accessible parking bays.

IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE

I look at the ways in which business’s present an overall inclusive experience for their patrons. While I focus on mobility access, I hope to get ideas from you and others to add observations relating to other disabilities. I take a comprehensive look at everything from initial website experience to staff attitudes. I do not comment on food (except sometimes if it’s super fab I might not be able to help myself) as you can have the joy of making up your own mind on that.

*I was told Quest Frankston On The Bay management are planning further accessibility modifications.

Happy accessible playing,
